Geography of LOST: Retrospective

Hi again! I'm an avid follower of LOST and I have two questions.
1. How did you come up with such a beautiful map of the Island. I know it took you four years, but was there anything that helped you?
2. How did you come up with the location? Sometimes I'm not sure they work.

1. I’ve been creating maps, mapping databases, and enterprise mapping systems, collectively known as “GIS” or Geogrpahical Information Systems, for 11 years. I’ve also been teaching the implementation of the “GIS” software for 3 years. This version took a few months to create, but the research started 4 years back. It all started with Rousseasu’s map. ABC released a full screenshot of it back in Season 1 sometime.
2. Yes, sometimes they dont work. But, then again, it is fictional, and there was not an attention to cartographic detail on the show. It is totally my interpretation.
And yes, totally cannon.
